In 2012, Update Your Bathroom! Without Breaking the Bank!

It is the New Year and Teddy and TLC Construction are getting inquiries from customers about how to update their bathrooms. The customers have all kinds of budgets and all kinds of ideas. Teddy loves working with them to help customize a solution that would excite them!

So where to start? Teddy and the experienced contractors at TLC Construction sit down with each customer to discuss their particular situation, needs and wants. TLC brings comprehensive check-lists, that they have developed during their many years in business, to guide the conversation. They can start at the beginning of the budget spectrum with decorating ideas including new paint, towels and shower curtains. You could also add different towel bars, robe hooks, toilet paper holders and faucetry - brushed nickel is very popular right now.

If the remodel is to be more extensive and the budget larger, Teddy may discuss new tile on the floor and/or walls. To select tile, one of the TLC contractors would arrange for and accompany the customer to meet with one or more of their preferred suppliers. Tile has changed a lot in the past few years. Seldom is the small, shiny, institutional look requested. Many customers are opting for stone or a stone-look for a more natural appearance and feel. Larger tiles are also being used – some even 20″ x 20″. Contrary to popular belief, larger tiles make a room appear larger – an important look for many bathrooms! The customer may also add a decorative border of stone, granite, glass or ceramic along the wall, in the soap and shampoo niches, or anywhere an accent is needed. And to keep toes toasty warm, a heat mat with a wall thermostat can be installed under the tile!

But what about the vanity, customers inquire. Teddy is very happy to tell them  TLC Construction works with local, custom cabinet-makers who create amazing cabinets – to your specific measurements, selection of wood and stain or paint - at about the same price or lower than good, box-store cabinets. They can also make a toilet topper or linen closet to match!

If the vanity is in good shape, then maybe just a new vanity top, sink or faucets are needed. As with kitchen counters, granite has been the leader in vanity tops with TLC customers for several years. Teddy loves working with the customers and Rockford Area fabricators to find the perfect stone! But some customers don’t want granite or it isn’t in their price range. Then Teddy can assist them as they visit local suppliers for solid surface, laminate, or even concrete!

As Teddy discussed in a recent blog post, heavy-look glass is often used to update the shower. Some customers prefer a frame and others like the frameless appearance. Also, the customer needs to pick either clear glass or one of many different patterns that obscure your vision when looking through it.

These and other creative ideas from TLC Construction can totally transform a bathroom!Teddy has seen some amazing transitions and not all of them required a huge bank account!

The philosophy of TLC Construction is to do what is appropriate for the home and neighborhood while providing Tender Loving Care and giving the customer the bathroom of their dreams.
